The Humane Society of Charles County is an organization that is committed to the Choose Civility Southern Maryland Campaign.

Mission Statement

It is the Mission of the Humane Society of Charles County to provide shelter and care for homeless, injured and neglected animals through adoption, fostering, community partnerships, education and affordable spay-neuter and vaccine services.

Vision Statement

The Vision of the Humane Society of Charles County is to create a community where animals are cherished and no longer need us for protection and shelter.

Value Statement

In upholding the Vision and Mission of the Humane Society of Charles County we will all work with these Values:
1.     To always be compassionate and caring
2.     To foster respect and understanding of all life
3.     To protect, rescue, adopt and care for animals
4.     To create partnerships for animal welfare
5.     To educate the community on animal welfare issues

The Humane Society had only 25 members, less than $100, and a dream when we began in 1978.
We started out with dog houses behind the old Ice Plant on Route 5. Eventually we added dog runs to the back of the building.  In the early 1980’s, we moved to our current location on Industrial Park Drive
in St. Charles.
