Mission and History
There are many ways you can help the animals at the Humane Society of Charles County.
By clicking the donate button you are giving the means to provide food, shelter and medical care to the animals that may not get it any other way. In addition, you are providing them with a second chance by giving us the means to provide adoption services. And thats not all! The low cost spay and neuter, low cost rabies vaccination clinics and Humane Education for the public all depend on your donation.

Search the web with GoodSearch.com and each time you do a search, GoodSearch will donate about a penny to our cause! Buy a Brick!
Help us grow one brick at a time. Our shelter needs to expand to meet the growing needs of the county and surrounding area. By buying one brick, you help us reach our funding goals, which in turn help us reach our goal of helping more animals. Once you buy a brick, we'll have it engraved with your personal message and place it along our sidewalk to be seen and read by many that visit the shelter.
Please click HERE for our brick order form.
Yard Sale Donations
Have things lying around the house you no longer want/need? You can donate them for our Yard Sale! Unfortunatly we can not except clothes or old computers (we only except furniture on the day of the yard sale). We can also use volunteers to help with our yard sales, on the day of, or prior to, to help us price the items. Check out our Events page to see when our next yard sale will be held.
Volunteer Your Time
Many people find that volunteering their time is a very fulfilling way to contribute to their community. Our volunteer program is very active. We depend heavily on our volunteers, whether it be long or short term, a couple of hours a day, a week, a month, or a year. Our volunteers are involved in everything we do, from caring for the animals to working at our events...Yard Sales, Craft Fairs, Bingo, and many others! Other volunteers type letters, perform repairs on our building, provide printing services, and even come in just to walk the dogs!
If you have something you would like to contribute to our organization, please call Leigha Messick at 301-645-8181 or email her firstname.lastname@example.org
Check out our Volunteer page for more information. If you are under 18 and interested in volunteering with us, please take a look at our Junior Volunteer page.
We also need help for Bingo Nights! We volunteer at the Waldorf Jaycees' Bingo Nights and they donate money back to us. Upcoming bingo nights are:
Sunday, May 4th
Sunday, August 3rd
Sunday, October 5th
and in 2015, Sunday, January 4th
Please contact Anita Bowie-Marsh if you are interested in helping on these nights: 301-639-6909 or email@example.com.
Consider giving some time each month to visit with your pet to one of our area's care centers. Pets that are approved and their volunteer owners go through a training program. Once they successfully complete the training, they are approved to visit area centers like LaPlata Center Genesis Elder Care, Charles County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Morningside House and Fenwick Landing (Senior Community Center).
You can call the the HSCC at 301-645-8181 for more information and we will get you into contact with the Pet Therapy Director, Anita Marsh.
