Craft Fair!
Our 2006 Craft Fair at Thomas Stone high School really brought out the bargain hunters again. Everyone had a great time browsing through many unique crafts and doing some Charistmas shopping.

Yardsale!
The HSCC Yardsales are one of the more successful events we have several times each year. We set up inside the shelter as well as in the parking lot with loads of donated bargains for sale. They are typically on Saturdays between the hours of )830 in the morning to 1:30 in the afternoon. While most people come for the bargains, others come for the outstanding grilled hotdogs, or just the change to talk to Humane Society volunteers about the pet of their dreams. If you haven't already tried our yardsales, come on out to the next one. We'll announce it right on our home page at http://www.humanesocietycc.org!

KIND Club Python and Boa Constrictor Visit
The Kids in Nature's Defense (KIND) Club has visits from many different kinds of animals. Mr. Jamie McDonald provided a special visit when he brought along his family of Pythons and Boa Constrictors. It takes a rare knowledge of these beautiful reptiles to provide the kind of care they need. Jamie made it clear what it takes to have a snake as a pet and showed the kids that a snake can be a friend. Click here to see them up close and personal!

Discovery Program K-9 Visit
Each year the Humane Society has several days where youngsters of different ages can come to the Humane Society and learn about animals and their relationship to people. They receive visits from all sorts of organizations, to include the Charles County Sheriff's Department. In this case, the K-9 division demonstrated the capabilities of their amazing dogs.

Be Kind To Animals Poster Contest!
Be kind to Animals Week has always been a special time to remember our animal friends. Each year, beginning in late March, the Humane Society has its annual poster contest for kids in school to raise awareness in young folks. Judging takes place in late April and the winners are announced in early May, just in time for Be Kind To Animals Week. Each year it gets harder and harder to pick the best posters, but somehow we managed. Browse through and take a look at the budding young artistic talent. Its amazing to witness imagination in action! See the pictures of the winning posters...

Rabies clinics have always been successful here at the shelter, and these events below were no exception. At $7 per shot, you can't beat the value. Take a quick look at some of the pictures.

Fun Day!

Every once in a while, you just have to cut loose, and Family Fun Day at the Humane Society of Charles County, Maryland is a once a year opportunity to do just that! It was a hot day, but there was plenty of shade. These kids had a great time making objects d'art out of glass jars and multicolored sand. There were lots of games for the kids.
Games of skill and tests of strength allowed everyone to try for prizes (below right). A contestent tests her strength.
He has his eye on the prize.
This young man is watching intensely as the stuffed toy he flipped toward the bucket flies through the air (arrow)...will it go in the bucket and win the prize?

Fishing for prizes This young gentleman (right) appears to have a bite. A winner every time at this attraction!

Our Disc Jockey did a wonderful job, as did our hotdog and ice cream salesmen. This is one of our favorite events every year. We'll definitely be doing it again in '00!

Dog Walk and Contests!

We hosted a dog walk followed by contests for the dogs and dog owners. Both dogs and owners had a great time. The pledges raised by the walkers and the donations provided by local businesses are much appreciated. Everyone's generosity enabled us to bring in over $23,000! After the 1 mile walk, dogs and owners participated in several contests of skill, topped off by a dog fashion show!

Cat Neuter-a-thon!

A male cat safely undergoes the procedure It was a beautiful February day A feline friend sleeps through the event

Our male cat neuter-a-thon was a resounding success with over 160 male cats neutered! On the left you see Dr. Stuller in the foreground and Dr. Ringley in the background working gently and carefully with a couple of the cats brought to us. It was a beautiful day, and those that had a short wait to register didn't mind it much as they had a chance to talk to each other about their pets. On the right is Dr. O'Conner, taking good care of one of her many patients that day. Click on over to our Pet Care Tips section to learn a little more about why its a good idea to have your pet neutered or spayed.
