Reduced Cost Spay/Neuter Program     Pet Therapy     Obedience training

We provide many standard services to the community. Some of the most used are listed below.
  • Around the clock emergency rescue service
  • Rehabilitation of injured and abused animals, including necessary veterinary care
  • Sponsorship of several rabies clinics a year for dogs and cats. Click here to see pictures of previous clinics!
  • We operate our own shelter and serve as an adoption center on Industrial Park Drive in the community of St. Charles, Maryland. We also sponsor Adoption Programs at PetSmart and Petco in Waldorf every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. We need dedicated volunteers to ensure this program continues by picking up the animals at the shelter, transporting them to PetSmart or Petco, taking responsibility for them during the day, and returning them to the shelter after your shift.
  • We maintain a lending library (articles, teaching units, books, videos, film strips, etc) of Humane Education resources. These are available free to the community upon request.
  • We offer 25 different Humane Education Programs to schools and other groups.
  • Donations of a generous variety of Humane Education Materials to schools and day-care centers, including "Kind News"/"Kind Teacher" subscriptions and a Humane Education newsletter (4 times a year) to elementary schools.
  • A Pet Therapy Program for local nursing home residents. This program which brings pets, their owners, and residents of county nursing homes together in companionship and friendship has continued to grow. Volunteers attend orientation meetings and their pets are screened by trained staff before they begin to participate in the program.
  • Lost and Found and Information Services to the public.
  • A Reduced Cost Spay/Neuter Assistance Program Our program is provided at a reduced costs for all dogs and cats. Your cost will depend on your income. It is a significant help in preventing unwanted births and in reducing the pet overpopulation in our community. Surgeries are done at a reduced fee at the Humane Society as well as through local veterinarians for qualified participants. To see more information on our program, click here. • Obedience training will help ensure you pet know good manners, the key to a long lasting relationship with your dog. Go to our "Coming Events" page to get the information on the next available class. Good manners have to taught, and our classes can provide you with the knowledge you need to set up a basic training program for your pet. Classes are one day a week for 6 weeks. Each day a new command is introduced. This training will help ensure your dog's safety...and your sanity. It can be fun, and can earn your dog more affection and freedom than he could safely have untrained.
  • A variety of Humane Education and information pamphlets, reports and fact sheets for the community.
  • Sponsorship of the KIND CLUB (Kids In Nature's Defense) for children ages 6-9 years of age with meetings held weekly beginning in October.
  • Sponsorship of a Junior Volunteer Program for high school students.
